Sailing World Cup 2016: which sailors racing in Dorset this week will be crowned as Olympic champions in just a few weeks' time?
From Wednesday 8th to Sunday 12th June 2016, 380 sailors from 44 nations across the ten Olympic fleets will compete at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, for the nail-biting final of the Sailing World Cup, which is the last battle before sailors finally make their way to Marina da Gloria in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic Games.
They all have just one ambition: to win Gold and we need YOU "The Great British Public" to come down to Dorset this week to support our amazing sailors, because Great Britain are the best in the world at sailing and we intend to keep it that way: BRITANNIA RULES THE WAVES! ⚓

British sailors have established a proud tradition of excellence in Olympic competition, having won 55 medals (including 26 golds), since sailing made its debut at the inaugural Games in 1896, with Team GB topping the overall Olympic sailing medal table.

About Sailing:
No nation has won more Olympic sailing gold medals than Great Britain. Team GB have scooped 25 golds and 54 medals in total since the sport was first introduced into Olympic competition back at Paris 1900.
London 1908 saw sailing commence its unbroken run as an Olympic sport but since then, the classes of competing boats and scoring systems have seen many changes. Team GB have topped the medal sailing table at each of the last four Olympic Games and no sailor has won more medals that Sir Ben Ainslie, who has four golds and one silver to his name.
Sailing has been used as a means of transport since ancient times but as a pastime sailing gained considerable popularity in Holland around 400 years ago. Shortly after the restoration of the monarchy in the United Kingdom in 1660, King Charles II introduced sailing as a sport.
More recently, Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy was the venue for the London 2012 Olympic games and they're opening their doors wide open this time, to welcome fans into the venue throughout the competition days, to experience the event from the inside, so to speak as outside, you'll be able to watch the racing live on the big screen within the seaside-inspired spectators area. Enjoy a free sail, scoff a burger from the BBQ and watch the sunset off Chesil beach, now there's a plan for the weekend!
